A team packed with skilful players, though I wish they would stop play-acting at the slightest touch- still, Germany can't complain about that...

This match puts England's defeats to Croatia in a slightly different light. Still shouldn't have lost at home, but not the disgrace it was portrayed as.

With a fit Eduardo, Croatia are even better than tonight. One thing for sure, England will not underestimate them in the WC campaign.

What was SO surprising about this? Lineker, O'Neill and the rest can't believe it. Why?

England 2-3 Croatia

Does this not prove that Croatia are quite a good team? Germany are the tournament favourites for some reason - considering Portugal have the best player in the world, the French eased through their group(with the exception of 2 defeats to Scotland) and Italy are the world champions, I didn't understand the claim.

Can anyone tell me what was so surprising about the Germans getting beat?

I personally think that 2-1 is a big shock. Many (including Mr. Hansen) had been tipping the Germans for big things.

Though jugding todays performance, they looked pretty average whilst Crotia were a formidable force. W

All-star forward Carmelo Anthony is suffering from an injury to his right shoulder, which kept him out of practice Thursday but should not keep him out of Saturday's game.
"(The shoulder) is not good — it's sore, very tender today," Nuggets coach George Karl said Thursday. "I don't know how much he'll do Friday. The whole thing is just to calm it down, get it to where it's not irritating."
Allen Iverson, who has a fractured right ring finger, missed Thursday for personal reasons, and Nene took the day off as well. Iverson and Nene are expected to play Saturday.

Paul Pierce [stats], whose fiancee Julie Landrum is about to be induced into labor, may miss tomorrow night’s game in Charlotte as the result of becoming a father for the first time.
Pierce, the only Celtic to play every game this season, would understandably miss his first game of the year.

The absence of Devin Harris may be having a larger impact than the Mavericks envisioned. With Harris out with a bone bruise in his left ankle, the trickle-down effect has been easy to spot. First, Jason Terry has had to return to the starting lineup. He's more of a scorer than a distributor, although he does have nine assists in his two starts since Harris went out. But his 2-of-9 shooting from 3-point range, plus some choppy stretches for the Mavericks' offense, show the Mavericks are having to learn on the fly without Harris. "Now that he's starting, there's a certain way we have to play," coach Avery Johnson said. "We have other guys who can handle the ball. We need some other guys to get some assists for us, do it by committee.
"It's just a different unit without our point guard."

"... And in the biggest head-scratcher, the Trail Blazers are planning on shipping Travis Outlaw, Channing Frye and Jack, plus a first-round draft pick and cash, in a three-way deal for Dallas' Devin Harris."

Gasol was in Los Angeles yesterday undergoing a routine physical and is expected to be in Washington this morning prior to the noon tip-off. However, Lakes Coach Phil Jackson yesterday said he was unsure whether Gasol would be available to play.
Pau Gasol said he would not make his Lakers' debut today against the Washington Wizards. A whirlwind day in which he traveled from Memphis to LosAngeles to Washington meant he couldn't practice Saturday.
Gasol, who was sidelined for several games last week, hopes to play Tuesday night against the New Jersey Nets.
"I was shocked when I got the news after practice, I think it was (Friday), right?" he said during a late-night meeting with beat reporters. "I'm surprised, but at the same time I'm thankful, grateful and I'm ready to put my best into this opportunity and this team. I'm happy to be a Laker."
